september is the best month

being birthday princess month, september is always stuffed full of fun.  this year was no different.

i got to spend some time with stevie and juney when the old lady & co. headed up north to visit rock-ell and her family.  because juney and cocoa don’t get along, we have to keep them separated at all times and so i don’t get to hang out with them as often as i’d like.

as matron of honor for her elementary school bestie (ESB, from now on), the old lady was one of the planners for the bridal shower.  she hit me up to help her out with treats to serve, which i was more than happy to do.  along with the usual sugar cookies, i busted out some mini cakes served in little individual cake pans - these seem to be the newest trend.  they’re cute and super easy, and i had fun working on them.

and of course, when we went to the jonas brothers concert at intuit dome, ESB was right there with us.

the next day, i rolled out to l.a. to hit up the pop-up shop.  the old man is always saying that i’ve become a bigger fan than the old lady, and he may just be right.

it’d been a hot minute since i’d hung out with my high school besties, but every time we see each other it’s like no time has passed.  this time, we headed down to laguna beach to have brunch at the surf & sand.  the three of us all have september birthdays, so it was an extra special reason to get together.

my actual birthday was really lovely.  the hub took me to lunch down in newport beach, bought me sprinkles cupcakes, then we ordered dinner at the country club to take home and enjoy with the family.  it was a wednesday, so it was just easier than going out somewhere that evening.  and because we were all together, it’s all i needed.

i got to meet up with my mom and stepdad for a nice afternoon tea at chado in pasadena, too.

AND had sushi with the bean at our favorite place.

the hub always helps out at the CHP 11-99 foundation’s annual golf tournament, and i went with him this year to hang out at his booth and help hand out cigars to the golfers.  this is the nonprofit organization that raises money that goes towards the families of fallen officers, and he’s been involved with them for a number of years now.

lilcee invited me to join her and mr. lilcee to the psychedelic furs concert at the greek theater, which was a blast.  the peoplewatching was so good, and we had seats in the first row behind the pit.  gary numan was the opener, and it was pretty amazing to watch him perform his ass off - especially since the guy is almost 70 years old (that goes for the psychedelic furs themselves, too!).

my cousin’s daughter had her debut party, and had asked the bean to participate in the 18 roses ceremony.  this is where 18 people who are special to the debutante lines up with a rose to present to her as they give a little speech or share a favorite story.  the party was beautiful, the debutante was glowing and gorgeous, and the ceremony was touching and sweet.

while the old lady and the old man were off celebrating ESB’s 30th birthday/bachelorette weekend, the hub and i got to spend a whole night with the little miss.  this was a big deal, as you can imagine.  and she was the perfect little angel - minimal fussing and crying, sleeping almost through the whole night, honestly such a good baby.  we took her to the hotel del coronado for brunch with a view.

okay, so i’m definitely never beating the allegations because the jonas brothers had another local stop - this time, at honda center in anaheim.  the bean wasn’t interested in going and it was during ESB’s bachelorette weekend…which means that yes, i did indeed go solo.  i’d never been to a concert by myself before and guess what?  it was SO MUCH FUN.  i’d still opt for going with a buddy first, but rolling solo was a different experience that i really enjoyed.  i bought my ticket that morning, and while i was waaaaaaay off to one side my seat was pretty low and fairly close to the stage.  the guys took turns coming to each side of the stage, so it was really cool to see the show from an angle that i don’t usually choose.  i had a blast.

lilcee and i trekked out to smorgasburg la at the row one sunday morning after boot camp and snagged some free shit from door dash.

and while we were out that way, we went into koreatown to snag some delicious salted bread that we’d seen on instagram.  the bakery is called out of ordi, and even though we’d arrived a good 45 minutes before it opened we were still like 4th in line.  crazy.

and then to close out my very jonas september, i stopped in at krispy kreme on national coffee day for a free donut and cup of joe.  get it?  cup of JOE.

definitely never beating the allegations.
