october, as always, kicked off with the bean’s birthday. and 2025 was a milestone year…my baby isn’t a baby anymore. the bean is now 18 - a legal adult!
the annual celebration with their friends came in the form of one very fun-filled day - starting with a visit to knott’s berry farm and ending with dinner at medieval times.
because they didn’t allow outside food in the venue, we had to settle for birthday cake in the parking lot.
and during their october break, we visited a few local colleges. because we have reached that stage of their life. while i am embracing it all, i’m also somewhat in denial over how fast we got here.
i’d managed to score tickets to one of chappell roan’s two concerts at the rose bowl, which the bean was very excited about. and they found out that each show had its own theme - for this one, it was mermaids.
while they were at the concert, the hub and i had date night at sushi roku in old town pasadena. when we sat down at a booth in the bar area, i totally silent screamed when i realized that we were next to a group of guys who were also on their way to see chappell roan, and one of them was chris colfer, who played kurt in “glee.”. man, i loved that show so much. he’s on the far right in this photo. as we were leaving, i sucked it up and went over to say hello and tell him how much i loved him in “glee” - and he was very sweet and thanked me for watching. later, the hub said “i’m surprised you didn’t ask him for a picture” because we all know i’m not usually shy about it. the vibe was off, though, and i didn’t feel right asking, so that was that. and then he also said that one of the guys in the group was rolling his eyes and making faces when i approached chris. i’d made it a point to speak in a low voice and not make a big deal about it, too. oh well.
part two of date night was a movie at the ipic theater next door. we saw “roofman” with channing tatum, which kept us entertained.
the old lady and i took the little miss to disneyland for a few hours one day:
she also went to her first l.a. kings game:
speaking of games, the hub treated me to a couple of awesome dodger games - one during playoff season, and one of the world series games! gotta love baseball in october.
the bean has seen “hadestown” a couple of times - once on broadway and another with a school outing to a theater down in the OC. so when it came to the pantages, i knew we had to go, and we were extra excited to have the hub come with us.
the bean’s last homecoming. sigh.
the old lady was matron of honor in her bestie’s wedding, and they took the little miss to the rehearsal dinner. i happened to have some champagne satin fabric that matched the bridal party’s dresses, so i got to make her a dress to wear and she looked so cute:
we got together with the getalong gang for some all-you-can-eat sushi and found an old photo to recreate:
and then i capped off the month with a trip out to graceland in memphis for the annual general hospital fan event. more on that later:
good times all around.
