the very best kind of march madness

march was actually a pretty fun-filled month, now that i look back at it.  let’s get into it:

the hub and i snuck out for a day date, driving up to big bear to get some fresh mountain air and try out what is, oddly enough, billed as “the #1 ranked poke restaurant in america” by yelp.

i mean…come on.  number ONE? in big bear?  get tf outta here.

it’s very kitschy inside…bizarre and cute and tropical - in the mountains.  and if i’m being honest, the poke was just a’ight.  i wouldn’t necessarily go back again on purpose.

the bean was prepping for a school-led spring break trip to france (marseille, to be specific) and part of the rules stated that phones wouldn’t be allowed.  this was something that parents pushed back on so hard that they finally relented and said the kids could bring the phones, but could only use in case of emergency.  and so i dug into the archives and found some old tech that miraculously still worked:

the bean and i caught a performance of “here lies love,” a musical that taught us some really interesting philippines history.  it was really good, and we had a great time.

with the little miss’ first birthday coming up, the old lady asked me if i might be able to do one of those hand painted brown paper banners that have been so popular.

a new craft to learn?  say less!

i hit this milestone on the peloton:

sunday boot camp classes and twice-weekly barre classes still happening.

oh!  i managed to score another background acting gig on none other than “grey’s anatomy” - which just happens to be filmed at the same studios as my beloved “general hospital.” when we broke for lunch i was delighted to find that the catering company was set up in the parking lot so i could see the sign.  and i recognized other spots out there in front that have been used either on the show or for promo spots on the show’s (and some actors’) social media.  i’d love to be called in for even just one day on that set, but for now this is close enough!

btw, if you happen to be watching the episode titled “bridge over troubled water” (which i was also told would be the one before last season’s finale) i’m in the scene where a baby is born.  i’m playing a nurse on the NICU team wearing pink scrubs who helps suction the baby right after birth.  i don’t know why i seem to put off watching these episodes i’m supposedly in, especially since they’re all fairly popular shows! so weird.

the hub and i went down to the OC fairgrounds one sunday to check out overland, an event that showcases all kinds of 4x4 and camping gear.  not really my thing, but definitely his - and it was fun to look at all the equipment and trailers and survival type stuff.  we’ve always talked about doing the route 66 road trip, and it was kind of cool to dream about taking one of those trailers and just head out spontaneously, without a solid plan for the trip.  maybe one day.

i got to meet up with one of my old friends from the knot days, who was in anaheim for a cheer competition for her daughter’s team.  it was really fun to chat and catch up on life, especially since her daughter was also a high school senior waiting for college acceptances.

the bean took off on their spring break trip to marseille, with my old digital camera and mini ipod in hand.

the travel company who ran the trip uploaded photos every evening, and here’s just one of them:

meanwhile, the hub and i headed out on another day date.  i’d asked him if we could drive up to pioneertown to meet the tiny chef, who’d just been elected “mayor” of the town.  and since pioneertown is one of his favorite places for a fun drive, it wasn’t hard to convince him.  it was a really fun day spent together, and i love how he indulges all my silly whims.

as we started heading home, we decided to stop for coffee in joshua tree and stumbled upon something i’ve been wanting to see:

it was in this cute, quirky little arts village that i know the bean would have loved.  maybe someday we can come back together.

not gonna lie, this was intriguing.  not intriguing enough to look into it any further, though. heh.

i also finally got my sewing mojo back.  this little zip-up pouch was a little tricky to make, but it totally worth it.  and with a stack of the bean’s old shirts to upcycle, i have a near-endless supply of fun lining fabric to work with.

and speaking of the bean, this was the final line-up of college acceptances to choose from:

and so it begins.  whee!
