wrapping up summer

coming home after vacation is always a little...rough.  but considering we didn't have a whole lot of time before school started back up, we did our best to get back into the swing of things and enjoy what summer we had left.

i went back to barre classes after a couple of weeks off, and it was rough but i was glad i did.

the bean and i squeezed in one more trip to disneyland.

we got there early enough to try the "breakfast corn dog" at corn dog castle in california adventure - scrambled eggs and sausage dipped in batter, deep fried and topped with powdered sugar and raspberry jelly.

yes, it sure was served with a bag of chips.  at 9:30 in the morning.  el oh ell.

and although it was early it was already butt ass hot that day, so when we saw that the line for grizzly river rapids was a mere 5 minutes long, we decided to go for it.  we snagged one of the free lockers around the corner so our stuff wouldn't get wet and headed right on in.

we didn't get too wet and when we exited the line was still super short, so we went right back in for a second dose.

we headed into the animation academy after that to get at least one drawing session in.

and before we left, we met up with the old lady as she was finishing up a shift and walked through downtown disney to find something else we'd heard about:

despite my very low tolerance for most things spicy, i actually liked this. they'd scraped out the seeds before stuffing the jalapeño with the cheesy mixture, so it was really more like a stuffed bell pepper.  and it had bacon in it, sooooooo yeah.

the dogs were also pretty happy to see us, i think.  and we got to dogsit stevie and juney a couple of times, too.  this is a little tricky these days because cocoa has become incredibly territorial and doesn't get that she is a tiny dog and june is a giant dog who really just wants to play, but also doesn't understand her own strength.  and so when they come over we just have to keep them separated because my dog is ridiculous and thinks she's going to go after june and not get hurt while poor june tries to defend herself.  ugh.

and of course, it's always a good time when i get to meet up with my friends and share a meal together.

and that's how we ended summer vacation 2023!

this was our NYC home for a whole week: it was one of only a few hotels that i could find that offered two beds in a room rather than, say, ...
