the wans are having a traditional prime rib dinner on christmas day.
on sunday, the ILs went with us to costco to pick up the roast - a whopping 15-pounder, enough to feed ten people (obviously, there are some hearty carnivores in the group). now, i'm already apprehensive about shopping at costco on a weekend, let alone the weekend before christmas. yikes.
but i was pleasantly surprised to see that the crowds were not as ridiculous as i'd expected. however, the giant piles of prime rib roasts that i'd seen earlier in the week were completely gone, with "maybe" a shipment arriving on tuesday. shit.
the next morning, i called my local vons grocery store and talked to the butcher department and - BONUS! not only did they have an ample supply of meat, but it was even on sale - half price! whee!
i now have a freaking side of beef in my fridge. tomorrow morning, i'll follow the tried-and-true lawry's prime rib recipe and put this baby in my oven for, oh, about five hours.
i'm picking up the teen in about half an hour. we're going to do a little bit of last-minute shopping, pick up a nice warm drink from the 'bucks, and then come home to make dinner and wrap presents. i asked her what her most favorite meal that i make is, and her answer?
heh. we'll hit up the evening service at church tonight, and then come home to relax in our pajamas. i may even break down and watch "a christmas story," which i've never actually seen. i know, i know, blasphemy - especially as tbs does a freaking marathon of this movie every year.
i dressed the bean in an adorable top from her auntie amber, and of course i had to capture the cuteness for you.
i have no idea when i'll be able to blog again, so i shall wish you all a warm, wonderful happy, merry christmas now. i hope you have a fabulous holiday, eat a lot of yummy food, open lots of fun presents, and make some fantastic memories with those you love.
ah, how i love the holiday season. i just want to hug everyone.
