sushi friday

so the hub has been absolutely raving about some sushi place that one of his co-workers took him to. it's some joint WAAAAAAY off the beaten path - in the city of industry - and it's tucked in a slightly janky residential area, with industrial warehouses across the street. you'd seriously never know it was there.

but once you do get there, the parking lot is completely full (apparently, at any given time of day) - crammed with bmws, lexus, mercedes - totally out of place in such a shitty area. i mean, look at this place:

seriously.

and it's certainly not a whole lot prettier inside, either. however, you're greeted by very friendly waitstaff, plus a female sushi chef. i read reviews on yelp.com about this place before we left and it seems that folks either love her or don't. and the hub told me later on that if she likes you, she's awesome - funny, friendly, a little bawdy. but if she doesn't, she'll totally make fun of you and talk shit right to your face. i suppose anyone's fairly safe in a crowded restaurant, and a deadly sharp sushi knife in your hand is helpful, too.

the food was good - although i'm not that adventurous when it comes to sushi. i'm not a huge fan of the raw stuff, which is what this place is known for. but what i did get was yummy - typical stuff like crunchy rolls, shrimp and asparagus rolls, and the special of the night: a whole dungeness crab smothered in lobster sauce. and not that wimpy, eggy lobster sauce you get from chinese restaurants. oh, no. this stuff was hot, thick, and chock-full of big ass chunks of lobster meat. delicious. messy. and oh, so worth it.

um...yeah. that's pretty much all i can say about our friday night. because after that, we went home, popped in the american gangster dvd, and then fell asleep when it was over.

yup. we're rock stars.

  2. yep, as my old roomie said, "rolls are NOT sushi, but they taste good, but they're not japanese."

anyway, we enjoyed ken's, so we may need to try this place next. it's in our old hangout area...too bad we never hang out there anymore

  3. Yummmm sushi. The raw stuff tastes good when you don't think about the fact that it is . . . well, raw.

  4. I've been going to Akasaka since I was a little kid. That's my dad's favorite place. :)

Their rainbow rolls are massive... it's like a burrito, haha.
